The government of the Village of Tilton operates under a mayor–trustee form of government, providing local leadership and essential municipal services to the community. Village officials work to maintain public safety, oversee infrastructure and public works, manage ordinances and policies, and support responsible growth—ensuring Tilton remains a well-run, welcoming place to live, work, and do business.

The Mayor serves as the President for the Board of Trustees. The Office of the Mayor is elected for a four-year term.

Administrator

The village administrator, who is appointed by the Village Board, ensures policy decisions made by the Village Board are executed. Additional duties include:

  • Apprising Village Council of all city matters
  • Assuring delivery of public services in the most efficient manner
  • Attending Village City Council meetings and other meetings as necessary
  • Managing the Village budget
  • Overseeing day-to-day operations of the Village
  • Promoting community-based projects
  • Representing the Village in a variety of venues

Clerk

The Village Clerk’s position is appointed by the Village Mayor. The Clerk is the historian of the community for the entire recorded history of the village and its people. The Village Clerk provides a service function to the Village of Tilton as well as support services to other departments within the village structure. The duties of the clerk are essential to the operation of the community.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintains official records and documents including archives
  • Keeper of the Village Seal
  • Attends and records the proceedings of all Village Board meetings
  • Records and publishes Village Board meeting minutes
  • Maintains official ordinances and resolutions records
  • Countersigns and seals official documents, licenses, permits, etc.
  • Administers oaths
  • Answers inquiries from other government units and citizens

Treasurer

The City Treasurer of the Village of Tilton is appointed by the Mayor. The duties of the office are governed by Illinois State Statutes and Tilton City Council Ordinances.

Major Duties

  • The Office of Village Treasurer receives all funds on a daily basis, distributes appropriate receipts, and deposits such monies in the designated financial institution.

  • The Village Treasurer ensures that all available City cash is deposited and invested, and that bank accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis.

  • The Village Treasurer is responsible for publishing the Annual Treasurer’s Report, listing yearly receipts and disbursements.

  • Treasurer’s Annual Report of all Receipts and Disbursements
